The Old Hickory Gun Club Facilities.
Location. The Old Hickory Gun Club is located on Dalewood Drive, off US 64 business East, behind the Rocky Mount Fair Grounds. Originally conceived by a small group of shooting enthusiasts in 1983, the club opened for operation in 1984. From the original 3 skeet fields and a club house-in-a-trailer, the facility has gradually expanded. Now there is a permanent club house, 5 skeet fields, three of which are combo skeet and trap. Also we have SASS (cowboy) range as well as a Rifle/Pistol range. RV hookups are also available with electricity and water for a small fee to be used by campers during scheduled shoots.
Hours of Operation. The clubhouse and shooting facilities are open every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 PM. Currently the club is open on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. but these times may vary slightly. Each year the club by mutual agreement with the Rocky Mount Fair, ceases all shooting during the week of the fair. The club also closes the rifle/pistol range for safety reason during all registered skeet, trap and SASS events.
Skeet and Trap. Whether you are a competitive shooter, like to shoot clay targets just for the fun of it or are looking for a little practice for the next hunting season, you are welcomed at OLD HICKORY. Skeet and Trap instructions are available from the more experienced members of the club at no charge. Generally, all five skeet fields and the 3 combo skeet/trap fields are available for use as attendance warrants. Old HICKORY is affiliated with the National Skeet Shooting Association and the Amateur Trap Association. Fully sanctioned skeet and trap events are held annually. A schedule of our events may be seen on this website under "Scheduled Events." OLD HICKORY lists among its members several past State and National Champions.
